ADHD has become one of the most common mental disorders among children, affecting approximately 8.5% of ages 8 to 15, according to the National Institute of Mental Health. Several scientific studies (see below) have shown Osteopathic treatments to be beneficial in increasing the attention span of affected children. Additionally, Dr. Steinecker has found a strong correlation to diet and attention. Modifications to diet paired with Osteopathic treatments have proven extremely beneficial to the patients she has treated and consequently prevented the need for medication. Although the symptoms of ADHD begin in childhood, it can continue through adolescence and into adulthood. Even though hyperactivity tends to improve as a child becomes a teen, problems with inattention, in addition to disorganization, and poor impulse control often continue into adulthood.
